Outreach Programs

The Health Center at Auraria has a variety of offerings through different Outreach Programs that extend beyond the Medical Services and Mental Health Services. Programs are available to all AHEC, CCD, MSU Denver and CU Denver students, faculty and staff which are offered at no charge. The programs enhance many aspects of wellness, allowing an individual to manage school and everyday life while also learning new skills to promote overall wellbeing.

Through our campus interactive Events and Mental Health Initiatives students can drop in to learn about trending health topics. In addition, each institution has access to their own health blog, CampusWELL for current wellness information. You can also take a Pilates, Yoga or Zumba class through the Healthy Pursuits Mind Body Fitness classes.

Faculty, staff and student organizations can also request a Presentation tailored to specific health subjects.

Cooking With Purpose

Food is nourishing, healing, and brings people together. Every meal is an opportunity to provide us with what our bodies need. But, making a balanced plate, or coming up with healthy tasty meal ideas can be challenging. The Health Center at Auraria is aiming to bridge this gap for students with the help of partnerships with MSU Denver’s Rowdy’s Corner as well as CU Denver and CCD’s Food Pantries.  Join us for hands on learning and the opportunity to prepare and take home nutritious meals.

Opioid Overdose Response Training

Join us virtually in the Spring Semester, each month, for invaluable information on the opioid epidemic and its impact on our communities.  Attendees will learn how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer the opioid overdose reversal drug Naloxone.  You will also leave with resources on how to access free harm reduction tools like Naloxone and Fentanyl Testing strips both on-campus and in the community. Department- or group-specific trainings can be accommodated upon request.

SNAPlication Station

As part of our holistic wellbeing model the Health Center has partnered with Denver Inner City Parish to provide a monthly SNAPlication Station at the Auraria Library. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)  provides eligible students with monthly food benefits, and many students do qualify! Join Alex, Lead Care Navigator, every last Monday of the month. She will be in room 210A from 10-2 helping students sign up for SNAP and answer any questions related to federal food assistance programs. Additionally, Alex will be able to connect you to additional resources across campus if needed.

Get Creative

Studies show that there is a positive relationship between creativity and subjective wellbeing. The theory behind Art Therapy suggests drawing, coloring and painting can help you tune into and express anxieties, or difficult feelings you have trouble putting into words. And, no, you do not have to be an artist to Get Creative. The Health Center at Auraria, in collaboration with the Auraria Campus Library & Project Angel Heart, have made it convenient to engage in self-expression, offering a year-round creation station near the atrium of the library (all supplies provided). This also supports Project Angel Heart’s mission of delivering nutritious meals to individuals diagnosed with severe illnesses.
