Fall 2023: September 6, 2023
Spring 2024: February 1, 2024
Summer 2024: A wavier is not necessary. The Insurance Requirement does not apply to this semester.
Every Fall or Spring semester when enrolled in 9 credits or more and you would like to opt-out of SHIP, the online waiver is required. The waiver link is located under the Student Hub profile menu. See How to Submit an Opt-out Waiver instruction guide to help you step by step to submit a waiver. All submitted waivers are audited based on the University’s Domestic or International Insurance Requirements.
Personal healthcare plans must be in effect no later than September 1 to opt-out of Fall SHIP and February 1 to opt-out of Spring SHIP.

*The University Health Insurance premium is not automatically charged to registered students during Summer semester, it’s voluntary (optional) for students to enroll in the University health insurance for Summer semester only. Undergraduates must show registered for 9 or more summer credits to be eligible and Graduates must be registered for 6 or more credits to be eligible for Summer coverage.
Voluntary Coverage
The University offers special voluntary SHIP coverage for Graduate, Undergraduate, Graduating, or Summer students if they register for the required number of credit hours and complete the appropriate enrollment application by the deadline. Completed applications must be submitted to the MSU Denver Student Insurance office no later than the posted semester deadline.
Details of the minimum required credit hours for voluntary SHIP coverage eligibility:
Graduates:
Automatic enrollment every Fall and Spring semester when registered for 9 credits or more.
Voluntary Fall or Spring/summer coverage requires a minimum 6 to 8 credits.
Voluntary Summer only coverage requires a minimum of 6 or more credits.
Undergraduates:
Automatic enrollment every Fall and Spring/summer semester when registered for 9 credits or more.
Voluntary Summer only coverage requires a minimum of 9 credits or more.
Graduating:
Automatic enrollment every Fall and Spring/summer semester when registered for 9 credits or more.
Voluntary coverage for the final graduating semester requires a minimum of 1 credit hour.
Voluntary Enrollment Deadlines:
Fall 2024: September 4, 2024
Spring/summer 2025: February 6, 2025
Summer only 2025: June 17, 2025
