Healthy Pursuits

As part of the Healthy Pursuits program, Mind Body Fitness classes including Pilates, Yoga and Zumba, aim to support your health through a connection from the inside out. The goal of the classes is to enable students, faculty and staff of the Auraria Campus to lead a healthier and less stressful lifestyle. Fall ’25 Schedule

Class Updates

If you would like to sign up for notifications about class updates, changes and/or schedules you can do so by downloading the Remind app from the App Store  or Google Play Store.  Once downloaded you can follow the steps below to connect with one or all of our classes:

  1. From your menu, click “Add Class”
  2. Choose “Join Existing Class”
  3. Enter the following class codes:  @HCAyoga, @HCApilates or @HCAzumba
  4. Click the “Join” button and you are all set

If campus is closed for any reason, there will be no Healthy Pursuits Mind Body Fitness classes.

Additional Information

There is no charge for all Mind Body Fitness classes for all Auraria Campus Members, including Auraria Campus, CCD, MSU Denver and CU Denver students, faculty and staff.

For in-person classes, equipment is provided and, with the exception of Zumba, no shoes are required for the classes. It’s ideal to wear clothing that you can move and stretch in.

In order to attend Healthy Pursuits please visit the front desk of Campus Recreation to obtain your Healthy Pursuits Pass. When you arrive, you will sign in before taking the class.

Mind Body Fitness Class Descriptions

Cycle/ Barre

This class is designed to bring you the best of both worlds, Indoor Cycling and Barre. 25 minutes of each will give you a total body workout that will increase your endurance and help you sweat off the long week’s stress. No cycle or barre experience needed. the mind and tone the body with this active style of yoga. 

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is a preparatory process of Yoga.You can explore Hatha Yoga in ways that take you beyond certain limitations, but fundamentally, it is a physical preparation – preparing the body for a higher possibility.

Kickboxing

This class blends martial arts technique with dynamic movement to teach proper kickboxing form while building strength, endurance, and confidence. You’ll learn striking combinations, footwork, and defensive blocks, all while boosting your stamina through targeted core and total-body exercises.

Zumba®

This class will relieve stress while you sweat and dance the class away. Zumba® is a combination of international dance rhythms combined with dance and fitness exercises for a dynamic, fun and engaging workout.

Meko Blackshire
Hatha Yoga Instructor 

Join Meko for a gentle, beginner friendly Hatha yoga class! This accessible practice welcomes all skill levels and focuses on slow, mindful movements that help you unwind from the demands of the day. Through basic postures, gentle stretches, and breathing techniques, you’ll find your center, ground yourself, and release tension held in the body. Perfect for those seeking a peaceful break in their day to reconnect with themselves and cultivate inner calm. No prior yoga experience necessary. Just bring yourself and an open mind. Take this opportunity to slow down, breathe deeply, and give your body the restorative movement it deserves.

Victoria Watson
Kickboxing Instructor

Join Victoria to punch, kick, and sweat your way through this high-energy, full-body cardio workout designed for all fitness levels. This class blends martial arts technique with dynamic movement to teach proper kickboxing form while building strength, endurance, and confidence. You’ll learn striking combinations, footwork, and defensive blocks, all while boosting your stamina through targeted core and total-body exercises. Whether you’re new to group fitness or kickboxing, or you’re a seasoned martial artist, this class is for you! (This is a no contact/no sparring class that will rely heavily on shadow boxing skill development and body weight exercises.

Cathy Phelps
Zumba® Instructor

Cathy is a licensed Zumba® Instructor (2010).  She is a former member of Joda & Friends, African Dance and Drumming.  Participants will dance to a variety of rhythms: merengue, salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, bollywood and pop.  Cathy encourages people to find their own expression of dance in her class.

Alley Robinson
Zumba® Instructor

Come as you are and join Alley in a fun, judgment-free dance cardio class for everyone. Zumba feels more like a party with your friends than a workout. We’ll move to rhythms and dance styles from all around the world, so every class is fresh and exciting! No dance experience is needed. All you need to do is bring your energy, let the music guide you, and shake, shimmy and move like nobody is watching. 

Aimee Baker
Cycle-Barre Instructor

Cycle-barre is the perfect mashup of cardio and strength to get that total body workout in less than 60 minutes! 20 minutes of indoor cycling to get that heart rate up,  followed by high- rep/light-weight strength training  with barre.  This class will fire up the metabolic rate and keep it burning well after you stretch. Music and energy will keep you motivated and coming back for more!
