Measles FAQs

The Health Center at Auraria is actively monitoring the ongoing measles outbreaks in collaboration with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Measles is highly contagious, and 97% of confirmed U.S. cases involve individuals who are unvaccinated or have unknown vaccination status. Health officials urge all students, faculty, and staff to verify their immunity.

Please review the below and call (303) 615-9997 to inquire about your vaccination status or to schedule the measles (MMR) vaccine.

For more information on how to avoid measles risk, please visit the Centers for Disease Control website.

No. While there is no current outbreak on our campus, a recent case of measles was reported in Colorado. In response, public health officials are urging increased awareness and preparedness across higher education institutions, including the Auraria Campus.

No. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) are not changing the state’s immunization requirements. However, they are emphasizing the importance of having proof of immunity in the event of exposure to avoid city and state quarantine protocol.

Yes. Colorado law requires all higher education students enrolled in one or more credit hours to meet the state’s MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) immunization requirement, or secure and exemption. This longstanding policy has not changed. Get more information on student immunization requirements here.

No, employees are not currently required to submit proof of vaccination. However, they should have access to their personal documentation in case it’s needed during a public health investigation. If CDPHE determines that an employee has been exposed or is implicated in an outbreak, they may be required, by city and state health officials, to stay off campus and quarantine at home until they can provide proof of immunity.

You may provide one of the following as proof:

·         A childhood or adult vaccination record showing 2 doses of the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine

·         A positive blood titer test, which measures and can confirm immunity by detecting antibodies in your blood.

If CDPHE determines through contact tracing that an individual has been exposed or is part of an outbreak, and does not have proof of immunity, the individual may be required, by city and state health officials, to stay off campus and quarantine at home to prevent further spread.

You can access your immunization records through the Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS) Record Request Portal or through your state of origin.

If unable to locate records, a blood titer test can also confirm immunity.

Yes, measles vaccines, boosters and titer tests are available for students, faculty and staff. Costs may vary depending on insurance.

With insurance:

·         Most in-network plans fully cover the MMR vaccine.

·         Titer test costs may range from $50–$70 depending on your plan.

·         Medicaid fully covers both.

Full self-pay rates:

·         MMR Vaccine: $75

·         MMR Titer (lab test): $66

Students are required to submit immunization compliance documents. Immunization submission instructions can be found here.

Employees are not required to submit immunization records to the Health Center at Auraria.

Student can find more information about immunization exemptions: https://healthcenter1.com/immunization-requirement/

Vaccines are not required of employees. More information can be found at CDPHE Certificate of Exemption.

Note: Those with exemptions may also be subject to city and state public health quarantine protocol in the event of a confirmed case or outbreak.

Measles is extremely contagious — up to 90% of unprotected individuals exposed to the virus will become infected. Taking action now by verifying your immunity helps protect our campus community and prevents potential disruptions.

Please stay home and contact the Health Center at Auraria or your health care provider immediately
